Get To Know Me
My name is Deneisha Leggett and I am a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern with a passion for helping adolescents and adults understand the stories, experiences, and patterns that have shaped who they are today. My journey with Let's Talk Teen began in 2010, when I began working with teenagers as they navigated life transitions, identity, relationships, and the challenges that come with growing into who they are. Over time, this passion continued to follow me into my professional career and eventually evolved into something much deeper.
Through my experiences in law enforcement and clinical social work, I began to recognize a pattern: what we often see as behavior may only be the surface of a much larger story. I have seen how experiences from childhood can follow people into adolescence and adulthood, influencing the way they see themselves, build relationships, respond to conflict, cope with difficult emotions, and interact with the world around them. These experiences shaped the foundation of what would become Let's Talk Teen Counseling Services, a space created to help people look beyond the behavior and begin exploring the story underneath it.
“Healing begins when we understand the story we’ve been carrying and decide what comes next.”
I am extremely passionate about intergenerational trauma and understanding how the stories, beliefs, coping mechanisms, and unresolved experiences passed through families can influence the next generation. I believe that before we can change the way we think, behave, or relate to others, we have to understand where those patterns began. My approach is influenced by Narrative Therapy, which allows us to explore the stories we have developed about ourselves; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which can help us recognize and challenge thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve us; and Existential Therapy, which invites us to explore identity, purpose, meaning, responsibility, and the freedom to decide what we want our lives to become. For me, therapy is not about putting a band-aid over the wound. It is about having the courage to understand the wound, recognize what it has taught you, and decide what you want to carry forward.
Let's Talk Teen is rooted in a simple belief: sometimes we have to go back, but we do not to stay there. Whether you are a teenager trying to find your voice or an adult beginning to understand how your past continues to influence your present, there is value in telling your story. You do not have to erase your story to change the way it continues.
I also believe that finding the right therapist matters. I may not be the right fit for everyone and that's okay. Therapy is personal and you deserve to feel heard, respected, and comfortable with the person you choose to walk alongside you. If something you've read here resonates with you, I invite you to take the next step. Thank you for visiting Let's Talk Teen. I appreciate you being here and I look forward to the possibility of working with you.
